Senior Metrology Technician
Job description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Metrology Technician to join our high precision manufacturing team. You will be responsible for inspecting and checking our machined parts that are required to enable our experimental campaigns for our internal and external customers. You will be helping to build state-of-the-art technology as part of a highly skilled team of scientists and engineers. The role also requires you to work with our manufacturing ISO processes and assist the head of department in developing these.
Projects will range from developing pulsed power machines to achieve electro-magnetic launch of projectiles exceeding 20km/s, to complex target design and development. All will require creative approaches in design and manufacturing whilst using various types of tools and materials.
Accountabilities and deliverables
- Inspection of precision components that must meet the required specifications in the agreed timelines.
- Safe operation of coordinate measuring machines and associated equipment.
- CMM Programming with data taken from technical drawings and CAD.
- Planning the most efficient order of work to help keep continuous production.
- Liaise with designers and technicians to give feedback and assistance.
- Ensuring that all work meets quality and technical standards.
- Producing full metrology reports for scientific documentation.
- Adhere to our manufacturing and ISO processes and procedures and ensure documentation is followed.
Essential skills
- Relevant experience of working in a quality control inspection department to sub-micron level tolerances.
- Qualifications such as a HNC / ONC and or an apprenticeship in manufacturing or mechanical engineering.
- Experience in CMM programming and the use of conventional hand instruments.
- Able to read engineering drawings with a full understanding of geometric tolerancing.
- Proven adherence to health and safety procedures and the ability to work safely.
- Methodical approach to task implementation.
- Ability to work reliably under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated self-motivation and enthusiasm to work in a dynamic team environment.
- Previous experience of working with an NCR system.
- Experience with calibration techniques for measuring equipment.
Desirable skills
- Use of multi sensor equipment such as laser, white light, tactile and optical.
- Quality management and ISO process and procedure writing.
- Working knowledge of different machining processes such as milling and turning.
- Experience in the use of hand tools and able to take on basic mechanical fitting.
- Knowledge of quality management and business operating procedures.
